About a doezen attendees. My third tasting with the "Wine Collectors Club." My first with my own INAO tasting glasses ($34/dozen through Bob S).

Flight 1

1990 Dom. Mussy Beaune-Montremenots 1er Cru - 86 points
Nose of roasted cherries and almonds. Dry, some tannins. Light, sweet.

1990 Dom. Mussy Beaune-Epenottes 1er Cru - 83
Cardboard nose (from glass?). A little more minerals. Garbagy. Dirty glass?

1990 Remoissenet Beaune Marconnets [1er Cru] Tete de Cuvee EB - 89
Spicy cherry nose. "Rhubarb nose," Bob F. He's right! Unusually strong minty spiciness. Nice balance and sweetness.

1990 Ramonet Chassagne Montrachet "Clos St. Jean" EB - 87
Mint and cherry nose. Minty, woody, has some zip.

Flight 2

1990 Jadot Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru - 89
Big chocolaty nose. Explosive, with lots of tannin and chocolate Doesn't have the fruit of the others in this flight.

1990 Dom. Philippe Batacchi Gevrey Chambertin Jeunes Rois EB - 90
Big vanilla nose. Good thickness and balance. Thick with vanilla syrup. Needs a few years.

1990 Armand Rousseau Chambertin Clos de Beze Grand Cru EB - 92-94
[$60, brought by Dick L.] Oaky vanilla nose. Big, rich fruit. Needs time. One of the winners of the tasting.

1990 Dom. Thomas-Moillard Vosne Romanee Malconsorts 1er Cru - 91-92
Vanilla and chocolate nose. Expansive, exciting, real character.

Flight 3

1990 Alain Hudelot-Noellat Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru - 92-93
[Brought by me. $59 - 10% at Big Y.] Huge blackberry nose. Great length of blackberry fruit. "Outa sight" Dick. Long life ahead. Wow! Amazing thickness of fruit for a Pinot.

1990 Ch. de la Tour (J. Labet & N. Dechelette) Clos Vougeot Grand Cru EB - 92
[$500/case. This and Vieilles Vignes brought by Bob S and Frank F.] Big vanilla nose. Dramatic up front but finishes tight and austere.

1990 Ch. de la Tour (J. Labet & N. Dechelette) Clos Vougeot Grand Cru EB Vieilles Vignes - 90-?
[$600/case.] Tighter nose. A tight, old style wine that needs some time.

Flight 4

1990 Leroy Chambolle-Musigny Les Fremieres EB - 92-95
[Brought by Larry S. $60/b at MacArthur in DC.] Huge vanilla nose, mint, cherries. Massive amounts of fruit and tannin. So much sweet extracted fruit. Subtle chocolate and nut flavors. Ms. Leroy may charge grand cru prices for premier cru vineyards, but she sure does deliver grand cru quality. Needs 5-10 years to really show its stuff.

1990 Dom. de la Romanee-Conti Grands Echezeaux EB - 91-94
Big, big blackberry nose. Superlong, extracted black fruit finish. These last two are the clear winners of the tasting. Dramatic stuff.

Dessert

1989 Dom. Bourillon Dorleans [sic] La Coulee d'Or Vouvray Tris de Nobles Grains - 89
Light yellow gold. Nice peach and floral nose. Lots of melon. Subtle, crisp. Tasted blind. Not hard to guess it's Loire Valley chenin blanc.
