A Burgundy Paulée with the Albany Chapter of the Chevaliers du Tastevin,
at Chez Mike, East Greenbush, NY (9/10/2023)
This was a Paulée of the Albany-Capital Region chapter of
La Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin.
Thus, everyone brought their own wines, nominally one bottle per person.
The host for this dinner was John Fritze.
Since this was a Paulée, there were no organized flights.
I've grouped the wines in relation to the food courses.
As far as I know, all the wines were pop and pour.

Chez Mike has a very unassuming
exterior in a strip mall on NY Route 4 (Columbia Turnpike) in East Greenbush, NY.
But don't let that fool you. The food here is top notch.
A welcome on the board that usually shows the daily specials.

The Whites
Salmon Rillette with Cucumber Dill Salad.
2013 Domaine Laroche Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot -
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Mature nose. Rich and complex in the mouth. Lots of minerals. Probably at its peak.
Drink sooner than later. (92 points)
2007 Daniel-Etienne Defaix Chablis 1er Cru Les Lys -
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Interesting. Minerals and spice on the nose. Seems quite youthful.
Must have been well-stored. Lovely. (93 points)
The Reds
Chicken Thigh Coq Au Vin with Mushroom, Cippolini,
Bacon, and Gruyere Noodle Kugel
2006 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains -
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Bright cherry nose with a hint of forest floor. Rich and elegant.
Tannins still somewhat overt. Just fine for this Barolo-lover,
but probably best in 5-10 years. (93–95 points)
2018 Comte Armand Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux -
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru
From magnum. Mature nose of tart red fruit and autumn leaves.
Juicy, complex, tasty, but more mature than I would expect, especially from a magnum.
Still, a pleasure to drink tonight. (93 points)
2007 Louis Latour Corton Domaine Latour -
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Earthy, dried cherries. Quite mature, but still drinking well. (92 points)
2003 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Echezeaux -
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Rich, mature cherry nose. Lovely and complex in the mouth, but
a bit of a green streak is a bit off-putting. Still quite drinkable.
(92 points)
1993 Domaine Parent Pommard 1er Cru Les Èpenots -
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru
Mature earthy nose of dried cherries and herbs.
Fully mature, but drinking beautifully. I wish I had more of these.
Long, complex, a wine of meditation. (95 points)
2001 Faiveley Corton-Clos des Cortons Faiveley -
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Big rich nose of red fruit. Still young with ripe cherries and a hint of mint
or something like that. (93 points)
