Barbera Made by the G. Conterno Winery
- Information about the G. Conterno Winery and its Barolos and Barbarescos can be found on the
Fine Wine Geek G. Conterno Barolo Page.
- The G. Conterno Winery has made three different Barberas over the years:
- Barbera made from purchased grapes up until 1974 when the winery purchased the Cascina Francia Vineyard.
- Cascina Francia Barbera d'Alba has been made from the Cascina Francia Vineyard beginning in 1978.
Though the name of the vineyard was changed from Cascina Francia to just Francia in 2010.
Starting with the 2011 vintage, this Barbera has to be labeled Vigna Francia.
- Cerretta Barbera d'Alba has been made from the Cerretta Vineyard beginning in 2008.
As with Francia, this Barbera must be labeled Vigna Cerretta starting in 2011.
- Magnums: Barbera Francia has been bottled in magnums since at least 2005.
If you know of older magnums, please let me know.
To my knowledge, Barbera Cerretta hasnever been bottled in magnums.
Francia and Cerretta Barbera d'Alba
2008 is the first vintage of G. Conterno Barbera Cerretta.
The name of Cascina Francia was changed to just "Francia" in 2010.
Cascina Francia Barbera d'Alba
1978 is the first vintage of G. Conterno Barbera Cascina Francia.
Older Barbera/Barbera d'Alba
The Barbera d'Alba DOC was created in 1970. So far, the 1974 is the oldest G. Conterno Barbera
that I've found that uses the name Barbera d'Alba
.
