Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Riserva Speciale 1964

This is one of the few examples I know of where a producer has made a Normale, a Riserva, and a Riserva Speciale of the same wine.

In this period (pre-1980), Riserva and Riserva Speciale were distinct designations. All Barbaresco required one year in wood. Barbaresco Normale requires a total of 2 years of aging before release. In this period, Barbaresco Riserva required 3 years of aging before release and Barbaresco Riserva Speciale required 4 years of aging before release.

Post-1980, Riserva Speciale ceased to exist and Barbaresco Riserva took on the requirement of 4 years of aging before release.

Note: On the back label below, E Garantita has been crossed out below Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC). This must be a back label printed after 1980 when Barbaresco earned Denominazione di Origine Controllatae e Garantita (DOCG) status.
