WCC White Burgundy Blind
at Salty's Pub, Clifton Park, NY, (7/21/2005)

The WCC got together for a blind tasting of White Burgundy. The restaurant was Salty's Pub & Bistro in Clifton Park, NY, which has very good food, in spite of the name and location (in a strip mall). Sadly, Salty's closed in 2019.

Attendees: Bill H, Bob B, Bob S, Dick L, Frank F, George W, Joel H, Joel S, Ken V, Larry S, Mike T, Mike W, Steve M, Terry R.

The tasting ran from 7:30 to 10:30. The group ranking is given at the end. All wines were served blind.

3.1 1992 Domaine Leroy, Puligny Montrachet (Ken V)
Similar nose (to 3.0) but a mustiness (Sulpher says Hodes). Complex, huge in the mouth. Could have been great, but it's a little off. Food helps, but not enough. NR

3.2 1992 Remoissenet, Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru (Frank F)
Citrus, brown sugar nose. Flavorful up front. Tart, too citrusy on finish. Grapefruit. More balanced with food. 89 points. Group #7 WOTN.

1949 Domaines et Terroirs du Sud, Banyuls Grand Cru (Bob S)
Alcoholic, liqueurous nose. Way too cold. When it warms up a little, it tastes like mature port. Quite complex. 91 points.
Open 3 hours and 65 degrees F: Smoky orange marmalade nose with a touch of old wood. Nicely sweet. 92 points.
